Pool Installation & Pool Decks in St. Louis

Custom pools with hardscaped decking, outdoor living features, and LED lighting that turn your backyard into a private resort.

Your Backyard, Reimagined

A pool installation in St. Louis creates a backyard retreat that your family will use for decades. St. Louis summers average highs in the upper 80s to mid-90s from June through September, which means roughly four solid months of pool season plus warm shoulder months on either side. A well-designed pool with quality hardscaping around it becomes the center of your outdoor life.

At Green Operations, we handle the complete pool environment. That means not just the pool itself, but the hardscaped deck, coping, retaining walls, outdoor living features, lighting, and landscaping that surround it. Travis has been designing and building pool environments across the greater St. Louis area for over 20 years, and his approach is always the same: build it right, build it once, and make it look like it has always been there.

A pool is a major investment, typically $40,000 to $100,000+ depending on size, type, and features. Our job is to make sure that investment delivers the backyard you imagined and adds lasting value to your property.

Pool Deck Hardscaping

The pool deck is the largest visible element of any pool installation, and it needs to perform as well as it looks. We build pool decks using premium pavers that are specifically rated for pool environments: slip-resistant when wet, cool underfoot in direct sun, and resistant to chlorine and pool chemicals.

As an authorized Unilock contractor, we install products like Unilock's Beacon Hill Smooth and Artline series, which are engineered for pool applications. The surface textures provide grip without being rough on bare feet, and the color-through technology means they will not fade from UV exposure or chemical splash.

Pool coping, the finished edge where the deck meets the pool, is one of the most important details. We install bullnose coping, natural stone coping, and cantilevered paver edges depending on the pool design. Proper coping directs splash water away from the pool and provides a comfortable, smooth edge for swimmers.

Complete Pool Environments

The best pool projects integrate the pool into a larger outdoor living design. A pool surrounded by plain concrete is functional. A pool surrounded by paver decking, a fire feature, an outdoor kitchen, and a shaded seating area is a destination. Here is what we build alongside pools.

Outdoor Kitchens & Bar Areas

Pool-side outdoor kitchens are one of the most requested features in our pool projects. A grill island with bar seating lets the cook stay part of the action while preparing food. We position kitchens for easy sightlines to the pool, so parents can watch kids swim while grilling. Countertop materials are chosen for weather and splash resistance.

Fire Features & Seating Walls

Fire pits and fireplaces near the pool create a second gathering area that gets used after the sun goes down. Built-in seating walls around fire features provide permanent seating that dries quickly and never needs to be dragged out of storage. Many of our pool clients use their fire pit area more months per year than the pool itself.

Pergolas & Shade Structures

Shade is essential around pools, especially for lounging and dining areas. A pergola over part of the pool deck provides relief from direct sun while still feeling open and connected to the pool. We build custom pergolas sized to your deck and anchored into the hardscaping for stability.

Retaining Walls & Grade Management

Many St. Louis properties have grade changes that need to be addressed before a pool can be installed. Retaining walls create the level pad needed for the pool and deck, manage drainage away from the pool area, and turn unusable slopes into terraced planting beds or additional deck space.

Pool Lighting & Water Features

A pool looks its best at night when properly lit. LED lighting technology has transformed what is possible, with color-changing lights, programmable sequences, and energy efficiency that old halogen systems cannot match. We design lighting that highlights the pool, the surrounding hardscaping, and landscape elements for a complete nighttime environment.

In-pool LED lighting illuminates the water from within, creating a glowing effect that transforms the entire backyard. Color-changing LEDs let you shift from cool blue to warm amber to party-mode cycling with a remote control or smartphone app.

Deck and landscape lighting provides safety along walkways and steps while highlighting plantings, walls, and architectural features. We install low-voltage LED path lights, step lights, up-lights, and down-lights during construction so wiring is hidden beneath the hardscaping.

Fire and water combinations create dramatic focal points. Fire bowls on pedestals flanking the pool, fire walls integrated into seating areas, or water features with fire elements add movement and ambiance that photographs do not fully capture. Our project at night with LED pool lighting, fire features, and a lit pergola is one of our most popular designs.

Our Pool Installation Process

A pool project is one of the largest improvements you can make to your property. Here is how we manage it from start to finish.

1

Consultation & Site Evaluation

We visit your property to assess the space, discuss your vision, review grading and drainage, check for underground utilities, and determine the best pool placement. You will leave the consultation with a clear idea of what is possible and a realistic budget range.

2

Design & Engineering

We create a detailed design that includes the pool shape and size, deck layout, coping, any retaining walls, outdoor living features, lighting, and landscaping. You will see the complete plan and have the opportunity to make changes before construction begins. We handle all permitting with the local municipality.

3

Excavation & Pool Construction

The pool shell is excavated, formed, and installed. For gunite pools, steel rebar is set and concrete is sprayed and shaped. For fiberglass pools, the shell is set into the prepared excavation. Plumbing, electrical, and filtration systems are installed during this phase.

4

Hardscaping & Finishing

This is where Green Operations' core expertise comes in. Pool coping is installed, the paver deck is built on a properly prepared base, retaining walls are constructed, outdoor living features are built, and lighting is connected. The pool interior is finished (plaster, pebble, or tile), and the pool is filled and balanced.

5

Landscaping & Walkthrough

Plantings, mulch, and any remaining landscape elements are installed. We do a complete walkthrough with you, covering pool equipment operation, maintenance schedules, and warranty information. The project is not complete until you are fully satisfied with every detail.
